"Voyageur
"
A
voyageur strikes a dramatic pose with his crimson paddle. He exhibits the
pride of those men who plied the waters of northern Minnesota two hundred
years ago in the area now known as the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

The voyageurs were the truck drivers of two-hundred years ago. They worked long hours, from before sunrise to sunset. They would eat pemmican, a mixture of dried berries, pounded meat and fat. They would occasionally call for a "pipe", a few minutes smoke of tobacco in their pipes for a rest. Deprivation was the order of the day for a voyageur. They often took a native American woman for a wife. The voyageur's needs were few.
