"Common
Loon "
The
common loon, the state bird of Minnesota, glides across placid waters, evoking
a sense of peace and tranquility as its haunting song floats over the water.
The common loon, Gavia immer, is a large swimming bird with a daggerlike bill. To take flight, they run along the waters' surface, taking a long run before becoming airborne. Loons feed on crustaceans and other small fish and aquatic life.
